Race to the Rock 2016 is an unsupported 2,300 km ride from Adelaide to The Rock (Uluru known also colloquially as Ayres Rock) via the gruelling Mawson Trail and incredibly isolated desert Oodnadatta Track.
The route covers some rugged, remote country in the Australian outback. Different to a lot of bike-packing adventures, as Curve‘s Jesse Carlsson explains “this is not a ‘yeah two bottles will be fine’ sort of a ride”. The route demands respect, research and caution – and it’s with this approach that 20 racers leave Victoria Square at 6am on Saturday September 3rd.
Despite the complexity of the terrain and the task ahead, the racers take on three simple rules: Ride the full route. No drafting. No help that others couldn’t also get along the way.
